Project Launch: 09/01/2022

Partner: CLEAResult

The project will examine heat pump water heater (HPWH) technology and market to better understand potential energy savings, customer experiences and supply chain implications. The project team is currently recruiting residential customers to participate.

HPWHs present energy savings potential compared to conventional electric resistance and gas water heaters.

This project team will:

  • Train contractors on HPWH installation and best practices.
  • Conduct a field study to better understand the energy savings impacts of HPWHs, as well as the customer experience.
  • Work with the supply chain and various other market actors including ENERGY STAR® representatives, water heater manufacturers and distributors to understand and accelerate the HPWH market in northern Illinois.

This project is an incremental step toward HPWH market development in the ComEd service territory. Results will inform future Energy Efficiency Program design.

We’re recruiting residential customers to participate in this limited offer.

Selected participants will receive a quality HPWH, installed by a contractor identified by the project team to support this pilot. The new system will be sized and commissioned to efficiently meet the participant’s home’s water heating needs.
